Infrared Inspections

There are times when critical systems cannot be taken off line to have routine maintenance performed on them. An Infrared survey is the only way to get an idea of the status of the system. By implementing an Infrared program, customers are able to potentially save thousand of dollars of lost operational costs by being proactive and preventing a catastrophic failure. Read our "White Paper" on thermographic surveys here. (You may slao want to refer to our page on Thermographic Surveys.)

Annual & Semi Annual Infrared Survey Programs Available
Thermograpic SurveyA non-evasive testing routine is one of the only alternatives to help insure that system reliability is maintained in these days of continuous operation. An Infrared survey can be performed on electrical, mechanical and structural systems.  In electrical systems we look for hot spots indicating loose or corroded connections and overloaded feeders. For mechanical systems the survey can reveal bearings and pumps that are approaching failure. The Infrared scan can also show systems that are not getting proper cooling and are overheating which can lead to premature failure of system components.

Types of equipment that can be scanned

Electrical equipment:
            Switchboards
            Panel boards
            Panel boxes
            Switch disconnects
            Fuse disconnects
            Fuse holders
            Transformers, air and oil
            PDU’s
            Bus duct
            Cable terminations
            Power Cabling
            Neutral cabling
            Batteries
            Control panels

Mechanical equipment:
            Pumps
            Motors
            Shaft couplings
            Air duct blockage
            Oil Cooling channels
            Vent cooling

Infrared Srvey Procedure Description
Thermograpic Survey

By working with site personnel, PSS can perform an Infrared survey on their critical systems while the systems are operating on line with out the need to shut down these critical systems. We can show the site personnel exactly where the problem is. Site personnel can then make an informed decision on how to best correct any problems noted. After the survey has been completed PSS will provide a detailed report on any problems found with recommended actions for correction of problems.

Infrared surveys do not replace performing preventive maintenance, but when that maintenance cannot be performed, then an Infrared survey is imperative to system reliability.
